My high school friends Steph and Alana asked me to brand their matcha pop-up cafe and its menus. The logo took two rounds.

A moodboard of other brands’ work: café signage, matcha tins and boxes, and cups with hand-drawn marks.

The bottom of the board, two smiling ovals spelling Yiqi (一起) paired with a retro monospaced serif typeface, was my favorite. The client passed on it.

Round 1: hand-lettered yiqi and 一起 marks, type pairings for the name, and two badge logos with smiling ovals.

Round 2: the yiqi wordmark on its own, in an oval, and in a rounded box with 一起. These rounds took inspiration from traditional Asian ink stamps and Mahjong tiles (one of the standard Mahjong tiles is 一萬, which starts with the same character as Yiqi).
